Scientific Program

Computed tomography is one of the most rapidly evolving techniques used in the assessment of cardiovascular diseases. CT is an evolving technology that is in a rapid phase of development and improvement, and is applied in assessing an expanding list of clinical indications. In addition, the technique has also been developed remarkably such that currently it is also used in evaluations for various physiologic functions such as CT FFR and myocardial CT perfusion, beyond the simple examinations of cardiac structures such as the coronary artery and cardiac chamber.

Accordingly, CIVICS, which was founded to meet the need for academic exchanges, research presentations and training among radiologists, clinicians and researchers all over Asia in relation to CT cardiovascular imaging, will hold its first academic program in Seoul, Korea on May 21st (Sat) and 22nd (Sun) of this year. This academic program stresses the value and reward of pursuing advanced careers in cardiovascular imaging while developing the skills necessary to achieve success in both clinical and academic science. In this meeting, professor Leslee Shaw of the Cardiology Department of Emory University hospital, the new SCCT president for 2016, and has contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiovascular CT through numerous studies, has been invited to provide us with what will surely be a meaningful lecture. In addition, many CT experts from cardiology and radiology departments in Asian countries such as Japan and Korea will provide lectures and further discussion.

It should be noted that the fellows, researchers, and clinical physicians in our academic session should have distinguished experience. Attendees with experience of CT are expected to have gained exposure to CT throughout their training, incorporating results with invasive angiography and imaging and/or physiological studies, as well as echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiovascular magnetic resonance. Attendees who are being exposed to cardiac CT for the first time will most likely not have this comprehensive approach. All attendees should be exposed to and be familiar with the technical performance, interpretation, strengths, and limitations of CT and its multiple clinical applications.
